Brief about Linux

Since you have decided to learn Linux, you must be aware that WHAT LINUX IS. If you have no idea what it is, then stay tuned...

I am sure that you are aware of Windows or MAC as they are proprietary product and are being marketed with hardware. Like these operating system Linux is also an operating system which enables a computer savvy to use the hardware of computer, laptop or server to its fullest in a more efficient and better manner. You might be surprised to know that MAC is also a variant of UNIX family. Linux is an open-source operating system and is available for free in the vast majority of flavors e.g. Ubuntu, Fedora, Debian, CentOS, RedHat, Suse, Kali Linux.

These flavors of Linux can be classified into categories e.g. Some are engineered for ease of access for users and provide best Graphical User Interface, some are designed for running on Servers, and a few but powerful enough for security enthusiasts to make the world of computer more secure e.g. Kali Linux.

Like another operating system Linux also serves you an environment to access the software efficiently. The components of Linux are:

  1. Boot Loader
  2. Kernel
  3. Shell
  4. Daemons
  5. Graphical environment
  6. Applications

Enough of introduction, let's start the learning with installation of Linux.
