To get started with any installation process, we require the installation media, and to install Operating system, we need a bootable media either USB or Disk or PXE. To download, CentOS visit its website and go to download section. Select the version you want to install. To start working with CentOS installation, you require a computer system, or you may use an emulator like VirtualBox, VMWare Player.
If you are using an emulator, create a new instance, assign available memory, storage, NIC. Once ready, start the system with the bootable media you have downloaded. The first screen shows you option to Install CentOS 7 or Test the media and Install CentOS 7. Select Install CentOS7 and press enter.
Installation process initializes the system by loading required files for the hardware available. After initialization, it loads ANACONDA and starts the graphical interface for the installation process. The first screen of graphical interface allows you to choose the language for Installation.
After Language Selection, the installer gives you the Installation Summary. Give this page a few seconds to load. Once loaded completely, select the Software Selection, and from the new window select GNOME Desktop from left pane and if you need any Add-Ons, select from the right pane.
After Software Selection, Specify the Installation Destination. You are free to choose automatic partitioning or manual partitioning. I recommend you go with automatic partitioning. Now Open the Network & Hostname option from installation summary page and switch the Ethernet to ON by sliding the toggle button.
Now we are ready to start the installation, just verify once that you have assigned storage, enabled Ethernet, selected type of Installation, click on Begin Installation.
While the system is installing CentOS on to your computer, create ROOT PASSWORD and create users (optional).
Depending on what type of installation you have opted it will take some time. Once the installation process is over, REBOOT the system. On the first boot of the system, you need to accept the License agreement, select Language of use, keyboard type, and additional user and proceed.
Once booted completed it will show you screen Getting Started. You have successfully installed the CentOS 7 operating system on your computer.
